Hi,
I swapped the turbo kit over to my manual road car at the weekend and was back on the dyno today, everything has worked out pretty sweet,I am using Greddy Emanage piggy back computor which gives me control of fuel and ignition timing,it also conforms to emmission tests because all the area with no boost runs straight of the std ecu, this also gives nice idle control ,a/c speed up etc etc.
On 8 psi boost the car has 129hp atw (conservativly, roughly 160+hp at flywheel) so thats approx 60hp up from std ,it also means it works efficiently ,using the formula that for each 15psi of boost should see a doubling of std hp .
I will try to post some pics etc asap.
The car drives super smooth, with no big surge of boost ,it is very responsive and really drives like a much more powerful NA engine,in traffic it performs just like a std road car,but once you open it up it really is quite suprising how quick it is.
The next step of development is to remove the std exhaust system and make it all flow a bit better,I would guess a gain of 5-6hp atw by doing this.
Once the car has a few miles on it (car has only done 4444kms) I will see whether it is viable to offer this as a complete turbo kit ,I hope it will be ,but there is a lot more work involved in this kit as compared to the kit I was doing for the mk2/3 swifts.
Dave

great to see the work that you have put in has paid off ..

Hope that it is a viable proposition for you to build for others as well ..

congratulations!

Hi Dave, my car only has 100k's on it and I want to run it in well, but at about 5,000 i'd like to put a hairdryer on it, who did your turbo kit?

Damian.

Dave did the kit like he previously did with the MK2-3 Gti's.

the kit was designed and made on a automatic one, so i assume it would.

and well done dave, that is some very good power there and a nice power curve.

now once u run it down the quater im sure u will get a bit more interest aswell.

any drama's with the box as yet?

That's what I was thinking, iv'e heard of 2 transmissions failing, one auto that had a problem I can't remember and the other manual that lost 2nd gear. How would these 'boxes hold up and does anyone know what they are rated at?
Nice work on the dyno, it is a nice curve, not too peaked.

Damian.

o.k. I think the worries about the gearboxes are getting a bit out of hand.
For a start the auto box that was apparently broken, was a driver error, there is a lock out switch near the base of the gearlever, whoever it was who thought they had broken their gearbox hadnt worked out that the lockout button had to be pressed. :oops:see below
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well that was dumb.

The "Shift Lock" button can unlock it if it is not properly in gear allowing it to be moved into Reverse and then back into Park properly again.

Seems if you take it into park at a slightly wrong angle it may not "click" and therefore not go into park properly.

As for someone losing second gear ,thats news to me,are you sure that wasnt a old type swift!!!!!!they do have plenty of gearbox issues
The gearset used in the manual gearbox is basically identical to the one fitted to the cultus 4wd box,the only difference being the ratios and crown wheel and pinion ,so its a much stronger gearbox than the old swift.I will be pulling a gearbox down in the near future to have a look at fitting a lsd similar to the ones I make for the mk2/3 boxes apart from that,I wouldnt be too concerned about their strength.
At present the clutch in my turbo car is handling the power increase pretty well, but when I get the chance I will pull that out and fit a higher clamp pressure cover and maybe a cushioned puck plate.

I'd still like to see the power/torque rating for the manual box. I want to fit a turbo but am a bit worried i'll destroy parts not covered by warranty.

icandy, dave said the internals are the same as the cultus box, and he has got 320 hp ATW through his and has only broken 3rd gear once, and that was drag racing it, so it also depends how u drive it

ICANDY, if you are worried about the warranty, I would stay away from this thread.

Wouldn't it be cool if the kit and the car warranty stay all together...

I know Dave fitted it on automatic first, but obviously what he is showing us is the manual version that was transferred over to.

That's exactly why I was asking if the auto tranny was a feasibility in the first place.

Would be real interested in auto version too...
