Hi all,

Just out of curiosity would I be crazy to put 215/40/R18 tyres instead of the common 35 profiles on 18" rims?

I just want them to fill the wheel arches more so i only have to lower the car say 25mm.

I have 215/35x18 and the speedo reads high in comparison to the GPS. If memory is correct, going to a slightly higher profile should make the speedo read slightly slower, and if so, this would probably make it read very close to the true speed.

Hari - your speedo SHOULD be telling you that you're going more slowly than you really are.
The stock profile of a Swift is effectively 111mm on 15" rims (185/60 = 111).
Your tyre profile is then effectively 113mm (215/35 = 75.25 + 38mm of extra rim radius)
This is all theoretical and it would seem that in actual practise it's not the case, but in short, Hari you are running the correct tyre/rim combo. Can't say for sure how it will turn out on highster's car though.

Highster, in THEORY, 215/40 on 18s will be quite large, a whopping 13.1mm of extra radius, the total tyre being therefore 26.2mm larger in diameter. If theory was perfect (which it isn't) then when your speedo read 89km/h you'd actually be doing 100. That is a massive difference and a dangerous one in terms of speed cameras etc - I'd stick to 215/35 if I were you.

But actually I'd never put 18s on anyway
Lightweight 16s :D

I had a quick check of my speedo's accuracy today. At both 60km/h and 80km/h the speedo is reading about 3km/h higher than actual speed. So this is pretty accurate. At 110km/h, it reads about 5km/h higher.

Forget their name, but they're supplied through Bob Jane. I considered buying them a few years ago, but some people reported quality issues with them. Apparently they deteriorate and starting looking crap after a short time...and I've seen some that look that way on cars.

Thank you, for the response and feedback on the model too... should be looking elsewhere then... :)

That's completely nuts! Riding on 18's for the last few years, there's no way I'd ever go larger.

And you had them fitted without first modding the guards? What were you thinking? [-X

I called the guy back up and he said just get degreaser & spray them with it to get it clean but it doesn't work and they have cracks now coz they weren't put on properly and look s**t!

How new where your tyers? You really need to wear them in at least 4,000kms to get all the oil out of the tyers as they come new as that's what fades them out, also using a water based tyre shine helps revive and clean the white wall. Poor boys tyer shine is the goods for walls

Oh, that's better! And I've only ever seen two other cars on the forum with 20 inches and that was a few years ago.
