In order,
Paint Quality
Ultra high clutch pick up point
Slow 3rd gear syncro
Dealer service charges
Drum brakes

Great car otherwise.

Why not adjust your clutch?, and why are you getting it serviced at the dealer if you don't like what they're charging? :? Those 2 are easily solved.

Drum brakes.. shoulda bought the Sport

Unless you're doing a lot of repetitive braking then the drums brakes are sufficient for a road car.
And the clutch was easy to get used to. Is good for lazy people like me as you don't have to push down too far for clutch to disengage

Won't be getting it serviced from the dealer again. Even if I got it adjusted I doubt the pick up point would shift to far back. I'm just used to cars with a very low pick up point.
The drum brakes are only mentioned because i dream taking the poor thing out on the track, wack some semi slicks on and i think you'd have a ball, but the brakes wouldn't.

1: Lousy quality "carpet" (as mentioned earlier in this post)
2: Piss-poor iPod interface
3: How are you supposed to use "tapes" at a Motorkhana if the seats in your Sport don't have a hole in them???
4: When the sun is very high, there is a crappy reflection from the steering column on the instrument cluster. It makes it really, really hard for someone of my height (190cm) to read the instruments in some situations. (I think I will put some matte black tape over this area and see if it fixes the problem.
5: No cruise control in the Sport. wtf?

If I compare this to the list of gripes we have had with other new cars... It stacks up pretty well. So far my gf and I LOVE our Swift.

The Sport is drive by wire, the standard Swift isn't.

There is cruise control for it, just don't ask the Suzuki Australia dealers.

You're using a new model swift for doing motorkhana's, visibility out the back is rediculous, quick trade it in for a Hyundai Getz, much more suitable

Yeah but really, how many manual cars and more so manual "performance" or "sport" cars come with cruise control

My Gf has a ralliart Colt cabriolet turbo that was about 10k more than a sport and even it doesnt have cruise control

yeah... read it. Drive-by-wire systems are not mutually exclusive to cruise control... It was a design decision from Suzuki not to implement a solution. I'm sure the next generation will have the problem resolved. It is good to know that there is a solution out there... it's just annoying that it doesn't come as an OEM option.

um.... almost all of them? Our last two cars in Australia ('01 WRX, and '92 (JDM) Mazda Familia GT-X) both had cruise control as OEM options.

In the last 2 years (in Europe) I've driven (briefly) the following: R32 Golf, Audi S4, BMW M5 Touring, Skoda Octavia RS, Porche Boxter S - again all of them with cruise control standard. I also had a ride in an Aston DB9. Again, with cruise. I think all of them had electronic throttle too! Admittedly none of them are hard edge road/race cars (eg Porche GT3), but they all had sporting pretentions

I agree that the ralliart colts are also an abberation... weird.

Maybe it's just "warm" hatch market. Anyone know if cruise is available on XR4, or any of the froggy cars (Renault, Peugeot)?

....

nah... not yet. I'm not going to flog the pants out of our new car just yet. Maybe when it's out of warantee though.... But I do agree visibility isn't great. Although if I was going to do motorkhana seriously, then I'd probably find a BF Mazda 323 GTX or Laser TX3 4WD turbo. light, fast, good visibility.

Where abouts are you planning to race motorkhana? I don't know of anywhere locally - would be good to know if there is somewhere running these things!

good question. Brindabella Motorsport Club used to run a lot of 'khanas and hill climbs, but that was some years ago. I've only recently moved back to Canberra, so havn't really looked into it yet.

BMSC run rally events, but I didn't realise they did motorkhanas - must be grass events. SDMA run the local hillclimb track, with events every month. I'll likely be out there a fair bit this year.

Shame that's all the motorsport we have in the ACT - good thing Wakefield is so close!

Yes, the last khana I went to was a grass event. hmmm. that may have been in the 90's.

Are they still running out at the old police driver training school?

I hate the fact that i put down a deposit on my swift 6 weeks ago and still havn't got it!!!
if i cancel the deal it costs me 2k.
Suzuki head office 'can't' do anything about it and the dealer comes up with a new excuse for why it's not here everyday!!
i can't even get to work, so its costing me a fortune... do they care..no

Did you order a sport or a regular one? I bought a regular Swift in the middle of Jan and waited about 10 days for delivery. Although Qld has a different dealer network than the rest of the country for some reason so it might be different elsewhere.

As for what I don't like about the Swift...

No foot rest next to the clutch (not really enough room though).
Minor rattles in dash.
No Random on the MP3 player.
No centre console to put my crap in.
Integrated stereo, which dissuades you from upgrading it, although i'm glad it has MP3.

Not LOUD enough. I'll have to fix that with a pod filter or exhaust.

Still loving the swift though. And Kevin Rudd's $950 handout will help me to get mags and a pod filter or exhaust.

no foot rest
no centre console
lack of interior lighting in the back
the way the drivers seat adjusts.. or should I say doesn't really adjust, compared to other cars I have driven.

Other than those things I like it, it goes good for a little car!

oh, and people leaving the head rests up in the back!!!!!

Sinead, which dealer are you buying from? I'm in Vic too but didn't have any problems with mine.
