Hi all just wanted to see if anyone on here has or has seen or heard of a 4x4 05 - 2010 model Suzuki swift over here in Aus?

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FBZ4vDH7-UE

I know they never brought them over here, I think Europe was really the only big take off for them as snow hits most places pretty hard over there. I had seen a swift 05-2010 model over in Slovakia in Europe last year and noticed they were mostly coupes and had a "4x4" badge over there!?? So I did a bit of research and found Suzuki really did make some. I never found much info on the driveshaft/axle/rear diff info or the whole rear system but probably just base from/taken from jimny or sx4?.. probably a fairly weak system not capable of much more than stock power but could be an interesting project if we over here could get the parts?! Nothing Like Dave dmw's evo swift or anything but maybe could work.

Maybe could do with an airbag lift and some jimny bits and get it off road :D or even a little bit of sideeway action... just got me got me thinking...

AWD Swifts were produced in the Hungary plant for the European market. Australia gets their shipments from plants in Japan (and later Thailand), so no AWD for us. The rear drive system is crownwheel driven, same system Suzuki have used since the first Cultus. Completely different to the Jimny system, which is true 4WD.

The Swift in your pictures is a sport buggy, and probably only shares some body panels with a road-going Swift.

That's interesting because like you all our Swifts are imported from Japan and I've seen a number of 4WD ones for sale in NZ

The 3 dr sports sold new in NZ are definitely made in Hungary, easy way to tell is the indicator stalk is on the left and the 5 dr sports have the indicator stalk on the right, we test drove a few in the weekend.

I would be very surprised if the Japanese plant was tooled up for the 4wd models, I suspect Suzuki Japan would just bring a few 4wd models in from Hungary to service the small domestic 4wd market.

Agree with YLD80Y, sport buggy, you can see the engine is in the back and its running live axles all round, looks cool but theres not a standard part on the car anymore, a bit like v8 supercars.

There are quite a few 4wd swifts(not sport model) in Japan depending on the region. Many common export and JDM models of car are domestically sold in Japan as 4wd. Due to market resistance in NZ and more likely hood of under corrosion due to use in snow regions, imports to NZ are proportionately limited.

Yeah definitely no 4wd models sold new in NZ but am curious to know if the 4wd 2nd hand imports from Japan coming into NZ are Japanese or Hungarian built.

I've got a Magyar compliance plate on an AWD. If it wasn't so hard to upload photos to redline from a phone I'd show you.
