I got my GTI back from having a roll cages fitted last week and I have to give the guys at fabraications a big thumbs up.

I had a basic steel 6 point CAMS approved roll cage with a few extra bars put into my MK1. I was very happy with the job and the price. They specialise in roll cages. They do some of the most advance roll cages in australia yet still have a good attitude about doing basic cages aswell.

If you are thinking of getting a cage put in I suggest you head down and have a chat with them and check out some of their work.

I went in there knowing SFA about cages and asked what it was all about. I got priced $2600 for my cage. I believe you can get the most basic cage for just under $2000
I have a 6 point with side intrusion bars, main hoop diagonal, roof diagonal, b pillar braces, plates on the A pillar and braces on the front cross bar.

My current car had a cage installed when I bought it and logbooked.

I think you saw Mark's car so you have an idea what was done. Some additional braces were fitted down low and behind the dash. 2.5k ~ 3k is a ballpark figure for installed cage. I cant remember excatly what I paid it was few yrs back.
Sobil's cage looks more involved. and for the price paid its a bargain.

Looks good =D> glad to see another nice quality cage, personally though I would of opted for a short bar from the main hoop where the side intrusion bar meets that goes back to the rear turret, it would greatly improve side impact protection as would a bar that goes across the base of the main hoop.

As far as price goes, a stripped out shell is always cheaper than a car with interior as fabricators definitely don't enjoy taking your dash out

yeah, I would have liked more bits, but dollars were a limitation, so he suggested what I have and said that if i would like those bars fitted at a later stage then it is still possible. Fitting a diagonal in the roof is not possible later, as with the brace pieces, so im told.

I would really liked to have gone through to the front towers too but I think I definately ave enough for my first build.

After that lot of pics, if you have the coin now, I really suggest getting a dash bar too....it will protect a great deal in a front 1/4 impact.

And the lower bar that links left and right B pillar legs of the main hoop to stop the b pillar folding in, in case of side T bone impact. (as bonus it makes it capable of entering international events  )
